Style of Photography

Camera Art actually offers two types of coverage — "Traditional" and "Contemporary."

Traditional Photography

The Traditional coverage is shot by one photography who concentrates on capturing a complete record of your day. From dressing shots beforehand, to family formals, the ceremony and the highlights of the reception. All of the photos are shot in color, but black and whites may be made from any of the negatives. With the Traditional coverage the bride and groom can expect to view approximately 150-200 previews from which to make their choice.

Contemporary Photography

Camera Art's Contemporary coverage features two photographers. The first photographer shoots all of the shots that would normally be taken by the traditional photographer and the second photographer takes a completely different look at the wedding and shoots a photojournalistic view of the day's events. The second photographer will shoot color and black and white and will be looking for that photo within a photo. But, please don't be fooled by the term photojournalism. A lot of photographers use that term, but few actually understand what it means. It does not simply mean "shoot everything that moves" and hope some of it turns out. Candid photos are a part of photojournalism, but they are not all of it.

To give you an example of our concept of photojournalism I will describe a shot. I learned a long time ago that brides buy their dress based on what the back of it looks like - not the front. And, that makes sense, 80 percent of most ceremonies have the couple facing away from the guests. So the back of the dress is an important part of the total event, but how do we show it? One way might be to shoot the bride at the alter with the back of her dress open to camera with her looking over her shoulder (traditional). Another way would be for the photographer to capture a shot at the reception with the groom's ring hand around his bride's waist from the back that shows only the ring hand and the back of her dress (contemporary). That is a simple, elegant way of capturing that important part of the wedding.

With Contemporary Coverage the bride and groom will have between 300-450 previews to view and will see both color and black and white. The difference in the cost of the two different kinds of coverage is simply the difference in the camera fees. The cost of Traditional Coverage is $395.00 while the fee for Contemporary Coverage is $495.00. It simply costs $100 for the extra photographer.

Is one coverage better than the other? Not really - they are just different. About a third of our customers choose the Traditional Coverage and are thrilled with it. But if you like black and white and a more spontaneous view of your wedding, then Contemporary is the way to go. Camera Art gives you the choice of what kind of coverage meets your needs.
